Scuttle Butt Ship Log

Here, within the following pages of this briefly-written pamphlet, breathes the living courage, determination, and stamina of red-blooded Americans — young Americans who embarked on a voyage without knowledge of destination, and whose thoughts were not only of what lay in front of them, but also of their anticipated return to their homeland and loved ones. That ability to adapt themselves to all situations is truly American.

On the voyage to Australia on the ship J.W. McAndrew, the a newsletter was printed which covered all the journey's happenings. JD first mentioned the journal in a letter to his family dated April 1, 1942.
